Designed and inspired after the monarch butterfly, specifically the female butterfly as the veins in her wings are thicker. I created the model with grooves in her wings in order to create contrast with the darkened silver.

The Monarch Collection- designed and inspired after the monarch butterfly, specifically the female butterfly as the veins in her wings are thicker. I created the model with grooves in the wings in order to create contrast with the darkened silver.
This piece is fabricated with a mix of hand wax carving and 3D modeling and printing. I oxidize the entire piece then use a sanding sponge to clean off the dark surface on the tops of the wings to give contrast.
