PKU is a rare inherited disorder that causes an amino acid called phenylalanine to build up in the body. Without the enzyme necessary to process phenylalanine, a dangerous buildup can develop when a person with PKU eats foods that contain protein and aspartame and can lead to serious health problems. Those who have PKU must maintain a very specific diet. Recognizing PKU right away in infants is vital in preventing major health problems.

I teamed up with Cook For Love and How Much PHE to create a line utilizing the phenylalanine symbol and a pearl. The pearl represents beauty born of the imperfect, so, as stated eloquently by CFL, “to all of my metabolic community that have allowed this challenge to make you better (not bitter), this necklace is for you.”

I have created two necklaces and a bracelet, one necklace with an offset pearl, and a necklace and bracelet featuring a toggle clasp utilizing the logo. I am happy to announce that after 120 pieces were produced, we sold out!
